Better home and Gardens chose to take this week off so we could hear from the voices in pain.  We wanted to take the time to better educate ourselves and be the best possible allies to our brothers and sisters of color.  So we took a pause from blogging and posting to research, listen, ask questions, to self reflect and figure out our role in all of this. We took time to love those around us and on social media.

It is hard to want to get back to posting our decor, but what I am learning is that people on Instagram have created a community of individuals that encourage, motivate and love each other through showing our styles and supporting one another. I have found myself so excited about design as my page has been filled with more unique styles from a broader and diverse feed.

So with all that said, here’s what we’ve been doing in our laundry room the past two weeks. We have spent all of our focus  these 2 weeks on the opposite wall from the washer/dryer.  We were able to get the cabinets up and secured to the wall. The crown molding is up on one cabinet and everything is painted. When we went to put on the hardware, they felt lost on the large cabinet. Because I was using the same hardware that I had bought a long time ago for the cabinets above the washer, I felt I need to use the same for the new cabinets. The style did have a larger pull, but they weren’t cheap and I am trying to keep the cost of this room down. I had two extra handles, so I decided to pair 2 together on each large cabinet. I am extremely curious to know what you all think of this idea. Is it a fun design that works or look odd? I’m torn on how I feel, so would love all the opinions.

The floating bench is one of my favorite features in this room. Alan and I had miss communicated about how far the bench should come out….and then our table saw broke. So making a straight cut to shorten the bench would not have been easy. We decided to angle in the edges, instead of shorting the bench. Once we did that, getting our trim piece angel cuts to match up was not easy. So we decided to make it work for us by adding the triangle cut pieces. I am crazy with how it turned out! I love the unique style and feel it really adds to the space well.  I decorated it with 2 pillows I got in the dollar aisle at target and a blanket I found on sale at Home Goods.

And last but definitely not least, we got the board and batten wall done! We just measured, cut and installed slowly as we went to ensure all the angles were right. We found our hooks at Target, by Hearth and Hand. The Gains know what they’re doing, the hooks are simple, yet elegant and add a nice finishing touch.

Now all that is left is the concrete sink and counter top. Stay tune to see if our sink turns out to be a nailed it or failed it DIY.
