This little room makes a bold statement and screams Florida! I designed this room using the wallpaper as inspiration. I had been on the hunt for the perfect (affordable, yet trendy) wallpaper. When it comes to Anthropology home, what’s not to love? Well maybe not their prices and that’s why for almost a year I scrolled their clearance wallpaper. I finally came upon this beautiful, bold, black and white palm tree wallpaper. So excited that I found wallpaper in my budget from Anthropology and I bought it without my normal fretting back and forth over a purchase. Seriously though, I can debate over big purchase for months before finally settling. Almost immediately I had buyers remorse, because let’s face it, though it was clearance it wasn’t cheap and well I just bought palm tree wallpaper. I usually don’t gravitate towards beachy interior decor and living in Florida was it too cliche’? Um no! This wallpaper is perfect and screams personality!
I originally thought I wanted to replace the large mirror, but after pricing mirrors I decided to make mine work for me. Plus, when that mirror was glued on, it was meant to stay for life, would have been quite the ordeal to move. We just cut 4 premium Pine boards, stained them with Minwax, Weathered Oak stain and used liquid nail to install them. We spray painted four L-brackets for the hardware detail. I feel a great design is all about the details, and the hardware detail is what makes these mirrors.
The counter top was an incredible DIY project Alan did and saved us so much on our budget! When we bought our house the kitchen had this small, oddly placed island that had to go. On the island was a slab of granite and there was no sense letting that go to waste. We were able to use part of the counter as the vanity for the bathroom. Here’s a link to the counter top tutorial. Cutting your own granite sounds intimidating, but it’s really not that challenging and you can definitely do it yourself!
I had painted the cabinets long before I had even chosen the wallpaper, using the Sherwin Williams, African Gray leftover from my kitchen. I am so grateful the gray went well with my wallpaper. The knobs are also the same as the kitchen and I am really happy with them, they feel and look like great quality and were a good price.
The ceiling was rough looking and instead of going through the messy business of re-plastering, we decided to shiplap. To save money we did a DIY shiplap by cutting our own panels. And if you wait a hot minute, Alan will give you a tutorial on our ceiling.
Brass details compliment the wallpaper nicely and give the room a modern twist. The Wall Sconce we found on Amazon. The sink and cabinet hardware is from build.com. The faucet is from Home Depot. We spray painted the old oil rubbed bronze towel rack and toilet paper holder satin black.
Our bathroom may be little, but it makes a mighty statement! We had a lot of fun remodeling this room and we couldn’t be happy with how it turned out!
